Meet Charlyze

Charlyze Jones is a bright, beautiful and wonderfully spirited 17-year-old senior at Frankenmuth High School. She is a good student and talented artist.  She works as a hostess and loves talking with the guests. She really loves her second family at work because they are so fun!  Charlyze has been a part of the Girl’s Varsity Golf Team for five years ( the first as a manager) and the Girl’s Varsity Track Team for four years.  She likes the competition of her sports, but it is the relationships with her teammates, coaches and even competitors that brings her joy. When she has time for herself, she chooses to hang with her boyfriend, friends and family.

Her Fight

Charly was in her final chaotic  weeks of her junior year. She happened to notice a lump above her collar bone and thought “that’s weird”.  Thankfully, she told her parents.  Thankfully, her doctor was cautious and wanted “to just be safe”.  Thankfully,  they caught her stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma when they did. Charlyze has been in treatment at the University of Michigan’s Mott Children’s Hospital where the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology team have given her tremendous care.  She has had three surgeries and four chemotherapy infusions so far.  She recently had a serious infection that landed her in acute care at the hospital for a week . Had she not gotten care when she did, the doctors said she may not have survived. Thankfully, she did. Three days later, she was back at school and then off hitting 18 holes with her team where she even birdied a hole at the Midland Country Club! This Girl is a FIGHTER!!!   She has found that she is completely responding to chemotherapy.  She has been allowed into a study to try immunotherapy. She is very hopeful that this new treatment will be gentler so she can get back to “normal senior year stuff”.  After kicking cancer’s butt, she will graduate from FHS and move on to college where she hopes to find a career where she can help people.

 Her Cause

Charly’s message to you: Listen to your body & CHECK YOUR LUMPS !!!!
